Nigeria Update: NSE’s market capitalisation plummets by N6billion

The bulls lost their grip to the bears, as transactions on the floor of the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) closed on a downturn yesterday, occasions by price losses suffered by most highly capitalised stocks, that saw market capitalisation fall marginally by N6billion.

Yesterday, the All-share index dropped by 18.92 points to close at 35,188.97. Also, market capitalisation depreciated by N6billion or 0.05 per cent from N12.136trillion to N12.130trillion.

On the price movement chart, Total Oil led the losers chart with 6.00 kobo to close at N222.00 per share. Dangote Cement followed with 3.39 kobo to close at N210.00 per share. Okomu Oil lost 3.29 kobo to close at N63.21 per share.

Flour Mills shed 0.45 kobo to close at N26.55 per share. Custodian and Allied Insurance lost 0.14 kobo to close at N3.46 per share. Champion Breweries, Vitafoam and Oando dropped 0.13 kobo to close at N2.30, N2.57, and N5.77 per share respectively.

Dangote Flour Mills shed 0.11 kobo to close at N6.07 per share. Zenith Bank lost 0.08 kobo to close at N22.00 per share. Cutix depreciated by 0.06 kobo to close atN2.53 per share.

However, Nigerian Breweries closed higher with 5.00 kobo to close at N173.00 per share, while Guinness followed with 2.48 kobo to close at N99.28 per share.

WAPCO gained 0.38 kobo to close at N49.48 per share. Guaranty Trust Bank appreciated by 0.25 kobo to close at N38.95 per share. FBN Holdings added 0.22 kobo to close at N5.37 per share.

UACN added 0.20 kobo to close at N15.20 per share. National Salt Company of Nigeria appreciated by 0.15 kobo to close at N12.50 per share. Union Bank gained 0.07 kobo to close at N5.79 per share.

African Prudential added 0.06 kobo to close at N3.30 per share. NEM garnered 0.05 kobo to close at N1.17 per share.

On the activity chart, Guaranty Trust Bank was the toast of investors’ with 171 million shares worth N6.7billion, while Access Bank followed with 39 million units valued at N386million.

Jaiz Bank exchanged 39 million shares worth N26million. FCMB traded 29 million shares worth N29.4million. Zenith Bank also exchanged 25 million units valued at N561million.
