Nigeria Update: Investors’ wealth appreciates by 3.2% in one month

Following price gains recorded by many blue chip companies, trading on the Nigerian Stock Exchange maintained an upward trend yesterday, as investors’ wealth soared by 3.2 per cent in one month.

Specifically, the market capitalisation of listed equities that stood at N12.216 trillion as at Friday, September 29, 2016 rose to N12.694 yesterday, adding N411 billion representing 3.2 per cent.

Also, the All-share index increased by 1,240.31 points or 3.4 per cent to 36,680.29 from 35,439.54 recorded during the same period.

Yesterday, Nestle led gainers for the day, growing by 22.00 kobo to close at N1252.00 per share, Seplat Petroleum Development Company followed with a gain of 15.00 kobo to close at N492.00 per share.

Dangote Cement appreciated by 5.00 kobo to close at N224.00 per share. Flour Mills Nigeria Plc added 1.50 kobo to close at N31.50 per share. UACN garnered 0.67 kobo to close at N18.79 per share.

Dangote flourmills gained 0.45 kobo to close at N9.53 per hare. National Salt Company of Nigeria also garnered 0.33 kobo to close at N16.20 per share.

However, Total Nigeria Plc topped the losers’ chart, declining by N4.00 to close at N236.00 per share.

Beta Glass trailed with a loss of N2.84 kobo to close at N54.01 kobo, Unilever Nigeria dropped by N1.59 kobo to close at N41.19 kobo, while Nigerian Breweries shed N1.50 kobo to close at N150.00 per share.

Forte Oil declined by N0.99 kobo to close at N40.00. Zenith Bank loss 0.51 kobo to close at N25.49 per share. Ecobank TransNational Incorporated shed 0.49 kobo to close at N17.00 per share. Stanbic IBTC depreciated by 0.41 kobo to close at N43.64 per share.

Investors traded 259.079 million shares worth N3.054 billion in 4503 deals against 174.957 million shares worth N1.824 billion exchanged hands the previous day in 3401 deals.

Further breakdown of yesterday’ transactions showed that Diamond Bank was the toast of investors during the day, exchanging 42.942 million shares worth N42.640 million.

Fidelity Bank followed with account of 31.065 million shares valued at N47.615 million, FBNHoldings traded 21.471 million shares cost N132.123 million, Dangote Flour Nigeria Pic sold 19.717 million shares valued N183.966 million while Transnational Corporation of Nigeria transacted 19.343 million shares worth N27.149 million.
