Nigeria Update: NSE’s All-share index plummets by 0.9%

The reign of the bears continued unabated on the trading floor of the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE), as major highly capitalised stocks depreciated in price, resulting to a further slide in the All-share index by 0.9 per cent.

Specifically, at the close of trading yesterday, market capitalisation of listed equities dropped by N116billion or 0.9 per cent to N12.673trillion from N12.789trillion traded the previous day.

Also, the All-share index shed 335.96 basis points to 36617.45 points from 36953.41 points recorded on Tuesday.

Investors traded 184.247 million shares worth N3.324billion in 3590 deals against 238.364 million shares at N3.416billion in 4238 deals
A breakdown of yesterday’s transactions showed that Dangote Cement recorded the highest loss for the day, dropping N6.55 kobo to close at N230.00 per share. Seven-UP Bottling Company Plc trailed with a loss of N2.00 to close at N86.00 per share.

PZ Cussons Industry declined by 2.00 kobo to close at N20.40 per share. Unilever Nigeria Plc depreciated by 1.90 kobo to close at N36.10 per share.

National Salt Company of Nigeria (NASCON) dropped shed N0.77 kobo to close at N14.62 kobo. Nigerian Breweries depreciated by 0.75 kobo to close at N139.00 per share.

Dangote Sugar Refinery shed 0.45 kobo to close at N14.55 per share. Dangote Flour lost 0.25 kobo to close at N8.90 per share. FBN Holdings shed 0.18 kobo to close at N6.90 per share. C&I Leasing dropped 0.13 kobo to close at N1.32 per share.

Guinness Nigeria Plc led gainers chart, adding 1.00 to close at N101.00 per share. Guaranty Trust Bank followed with a gain of 0.94 kobo to close at N42.50 per share. International breweries appreciated by 0.45 kobo to close at N50.00 per share.

Zenith International Bank added 0.27 kobo to close at N23.95per share. RedStarex grew by 0.24 kobo to close at N5.04 per share.

Union Bank added 0.07 kobo to close at N6.11 per share. AG Leventis garnered 0.05 kobo to close at N0.64 per share. Learn Africa gained 0.04 kobo to close at N1.02 per share.

United Bank for Africa added 0.03 kobo to close at N9.58 per share. United Capital also appreciated by 0.02 kobo to close at N3.20 per share.

Further analysis indicated that FBNHoldings was the toast of investors during the day, trading 27.055 million shares worth N183.446million, Zenith International Bank followed with account of 24.690 million shares valued at N594.075million.

Fidelity Bank traded 18.045 million shares cost N28.726million, while Diamond Bank sold 14.922 million shares valued at N16.298million. United Bank for Africa traded 14.487 million shares cost N138.538million.
