Equities transactions on the floor of the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE), closed in an upward note at September end, causing investors’ wealth to soar significantly by N14billion.
Specifically, market transactions which stood at N12.202trillion as at September 5, when the market resumed trading last month rose to N12.216 trillion. Also, the All-share index appreciated by 36.06 basis points or 0.1 per cent from 35,403.92 to 35,439.98.
Meanwhile, a turnover of 1.326 billion shares worth N14.086billion were recorded in 14,703 deals by investors on the floor of the exchange in contrast to a total of 1.096 billion shares valued at N17.859billion that changed hands in 16,070 deals during the preceding week.
Last week, the financial services industry (measured by volume) led the activities’ chart with 1.060 billion shares valued at N7.339billion traded in 8,202 deals; thus contributing 79.95 per cent and 52.10 per vent to the total equity turnover volume.
The industrial goods industry followed with 91.351 million shares worth N2.784billion in 933 deals.
The consumer goods industry ranked third with a turnover of 70.187 million shares worth N3.395billion in 2,719 deals.
Trading in the top three equities namely – Continental Reinsurance Plc, Sterling Bank Plc, and Access Bank Plc (measured by volume) accounted for 412.840 million shares worth N1.486billion in 817 deals, contributing 31.14 per cent to the total equity turnover volume.
Also traded during the week were a total of 274 units of Exchange Traded Products (ETPs) valued at N636,147.90 executed in 18 deals compared with a total of 58 units valued at N90,475.00 transacted last week in five deals. A total of 7,424 units of Federal Government Bonds valued at N6.689million were traded this week in 18 deals, compared with a total of 178 units valued at N163,407.05 transacted last week in two deals
NSE All-share index and market capitalisation depreciated by 0.14 per cent to close the week with 35,439.98, and N12.217trillion respectively.
Similarly, all other indices finished lower during the week with the exception of NSE Premium, NSE Banking , NSE Insurance, NSE Oil/Gas, NSE Lotus II and NSE Pension indices that appreciated by 0.94 per cent, 1.17 per cent, 0.61 0.52 per cent, 0.03 per cent, and 0.24 per cent respectively.
About 32 equities appreciated in price during the week, higher than 25 of the previous week, while 32 others depreciated in price, lower than 35 the previous week. Also, 107 equities remained unchanged lower than 111 recorded in the preceding week.
